March 14th - Do you have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder?
Approximately 3.3 million American adults ages 18 to 54, or about 2.3 percent of people in this age group in a given year, have OCD. This week on The Best Life Barb Show we are going to delve into the topic of OCD or Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
This weeks guest will be James Michael Bailey, Bailey was born in Arkansas City, Kansas and lived there until reaching his early teens years before moving to Westlake, Louisiana with his mother and there he finsished high school . He eventually ended up in Hollywood seeking an acting career where he went to acting school and eventually got some parts in such shows as Chips, etc. Not long after his arrival OCD began to manifest itself along with severe depression and anxiety. He would suffer for many years before finally seeking psychiatric treatment for his emotional problems. He spent almost three months in an American clinic that specialized in OCD before his complex interaction with other patients led to him to be discharged. The good news was he had overcome most of his OCD before being forced out. He later drew on his experiences there and wrote the book Man Interrupted which was released in the United Kingdom and Europe and distributed in USA in April 2008. He now lives in Louisiana and California where he continues to write and act.
Also joining us will be Susan Andrus, psychologist. Susan Andrus began writing reports of human behavior at the age of six when she wrote a note to her grandparents regarding the development of her youngest brother. Eventually she became an educator, a psychologist, and a freelance writer. Dr. Susan will give us her take on OCD and human behavior.
